The Stinky Trees

So pretty, right? They’re gorgeous trees. Almost perfect globes of radiant shimmery white in springtime, so full of blossoms it’s sometimes hard to see the smooth dark bark of the tree itself. Beautiful.

And they stink! Like cat’s pee, if you ask me. They’re a type of pear tree, brought to my neck of the woods over a century ago. Pyrus calleryana, or so I’ve been informed, being somewhat new to the area myself. And, blessed with a good strong breeze so I could be upwind of the tree… and downwind of a sandwich shop … I got a picture of the blossoms. Count yourself lucky that smell is not yet an included feature of WordPress. ; )
